<i>Do do you ALWAYS need a RSS reader installed?</i>

For now -- that is with IE 6 and the current version of FireFox -- yes. Internet Explorer 7 and newer versions of FireFox will have this built-it. I've been running the Beta of IE 7 for a few months now and it has it built it. Feed formats are in XML.

"Push" is really a bullshit term anymore. Clients really request whatever data they want. But, yeah, you can have Pluck alert you (much like Outlook) when a site has been updated. If you click on the alert, it will open your browser and take you into the plug-in/extension.

Do do you ALWAYS need a RSS reader installed? Will IE or Firefox have them built in someday?

Also, is the content "pushed" to you? Sounds like it is...then what happens...Pluck gives you a desktop alert...you open Pluck...then click on what? What format are you reading these feeds in (html, text, etc)?
