“Install your former IO80211family.kext from your old /Extra folder (Remember, the one you made the backup of?!) using KextUtility or KextHelper.”
In order to do this get KextUtility and then drag and drop your old IO80211family.kext in KextUtility.app and that’s it. Hope this helps.

when i go to software update> then selecting 10.6.8 update combined; it is getting downloaded.. so i should do this directly or i should follow any steps? please help…

Plastilin, Apple changed the IONetworkingFamily.kext… moreso, mainly the AppleYukon.kext plugin contained within in 10.6.8. If you had a modded AppleYukon.kext where you patched your correct MAC address in 10.6.7, roll back to that version. You can find detail about hex editing the AppleYukon.kext (plugin) here:

Looks for Slice’s method of changing the MAC address. Make sure to make a backup of your original IONetworkingFamily.kext. You should be able to just update this Yukon plugin in the current version of IONetworkingFamily.kext, but I found it was just easier for me to rollback the entire IONetworkingFamily.kext in which I had already modified the plugin (AppleYukon.kext). Up to you… Your mileage might vary.

Tyler, delete SleepEnabler.kext… It is no longer necessary. With the new DSDT and Apple power management kexts, 10.6.8 and the Dell is now using Apple’s power management for sleep, speed-stepping, etc.

I installed but it won’t boot due to a version mismatch with sleepenabler. I can’t use pmVersion=23 through chameleon any ideas?

I have the same problem as Linda … just KB2515325 will not install.. followed your instructions manually but same thing – craps out during the configuration. The update is for an instability in IE – stupid thing is I don’t even use IE lol… but it would be nice to get this resolved.

Thanks for this, Dave. That’s been getting on my nerves for the past couple of weeks. I thought it was related to some other program I’d installed until I checked the date on which it all started to go wrong.

I installed them one-by-one in the order listed with reboots in-between (even when not demanded). I have a hunch the conflict might be between the first and last, however, as they seem to be more significant changes.

I have tried installing things one at a time. But KB 2515325 will not complete. Gets to 67% configuring stops and reverts. Any ideas? I am Very computer illiterate and do not understand most of what all these sites are telling me to do.

Hi Dave,
Just wanted to thank you from down here in New Zealand. I had this issue on both PC’s at home (home office and children’s); then my mother rang with the same issue.
I found heaps of people had the same problem, and MS had offered no solutions. Other solutions were offered on the Web, and I actually got KB982018 loaded (& configured!) before I found your method. Of course, having sorted the other PC I tried it on my ‘main’ PC ….but to no avail until I stumbled upon your site as one of those Goggled! Such a simple, and well explained solution AND … it WORKED :-) ! So, many thanks form me, and I’m sure, from many others (pity MS couldn’t put this on their site and just save us all the hassle (that is if they must cause such troubles int he first place).
On another note, very interested to read of your background, interest and expertise in photography / video and related s/w. Like your site header HDR photos too. Any thoughts about doing some ‘Ramblings’ in these subject areas?

I had those 4 and also another update for visual studio 10 express which was failing, but the VS10E update worked fine after manually applying VS10 SP1 (which didn’t seem to come through windows update) – in case that’s helpful to anyone else.

Thanks… Glad you found the post so quickly. Like you, I seemed to find nothing but a lot of unnecessary and sometimes dangerous “suggestions” for correcting the problem out there.

As always, the K.I.S.S. method ended up working well and was by far the safest fix.

Hey, it sounds like you’re a kindred spirit. I started with computers tinkering with Apple II’s in high school, inventing an IBM to apple joystick interface. My first ‘PC’ was a trusty Texas Instruments 99-4/A. Boy, the sleepless nights working in Basic, and the endless typing of program lines. And remember the audio cassette drives for the early machines. What a blast.

I’m kinda proud to have been around in those times. The genesis of home computing.

Dave, It was apleasant surprise to read your article. Mildred is buried in the same family plot as my father.I had heard stories of her(my fathers cousin) as achild. He died in 1959 when I was 13. So any information on the family is hard to find. I do remember Girdwood , lived on N. main St. for a time. I have not been to the cemetary for over a year but was apalled at the condition of her headstone, it was wiped smooth from wheather and time. best regards Jim

fixed it.

run malware bytes s/w

it picked upp 6-7 issues all of them had to do with ASF and MSdownload. e x e

removed them manually and everything works fine now.

same here.

i dd all of the above, i dd find some issues and have correct them but the problem ( waiting for 74.55.39.45… ) did not go away.

It appears in firefox and on ie 8 (but on the ie8 is just slow without posting the “waiting for 74.55.39.45″).

in addition when i discovered this issue google analytics (Dashboard, flash player, isn’t working). This other issue also manifest itself at the same time. I suspect the two may be related.

reinstalling windows may be the solution but i will wait for a couple days to see if someone else posts a sln.

I have the same issue in xp. Prevx finds nothing just as adaware and avasti find nothing. This is very annoying even when not using firefox download speeds are still slow. I dual boot into ubuntu linux and no problems my download speed max’s out. i guess its time to wipe xp and do a complete reinstall… again… sigh. Hopefully someone will figure out what this rogue ip is.

AVISynth is totall awesome. It is one of the most powerful tools I have ever used because it is so flexible. I have however run into a dead end. I have not been able to find a way to import an Omneon .mxf file into AviSynth. If anyone knows please let me know. So I would say that AVISynth is a great tool but it shouldn’t be your only tool.

How much work you want to do? Never mind I know that answer DAVE! But maybe the hottie that puts up with ya might want to give it a shot?

I say paint, you do have transitional pulls. The plant for one, but it won’t always be there. What you think about two toning the pillar? Vertical strips with an third transition color or even the same two colors but thiner dark strips.

You might also think about the good old sponge dable, but I would also think about 3 color dabs.
